Simple Sentence

A sentence that expresses a single thought or idea is a SIMPLE SENTENCE (also known as an INDEPENDENT CLAUSE). 

• Paul smiled.  (one subject doing one action)
• Sara loves reading, writing, and playing music. (one person doing one set of actions)
• Bill and Johnny cut down four elm trees and three maple trees. (one group doing one set of actions)

Simple sentences CANNOT start with “Because”.

A simple sentence can be any of the four kinds of sentences.
