NJASK 6-Point Rubric: Opening & Closing - Story
You may be asked to write a story for the NJASK. If so, you need to make sure the story has an interesting beginning that gets the reader's attention (a hook) and that you resolve the main conflict (end the story - no cliff hangers!)
For a story, a hook could be starting...
in the middle of some action.
with the climax.
in the middle of a conflict.
with a mysterious event.
with a humorous event.
in the middle of dialogue.
with a shocking situation.
with unusual phrasing/vocabulary that the reader will need to keep reading to understand.
with a very emotional scene.
with a problem.
