Closing Paragraphs

A closing paragraph should give some kind of "final thought" on the topic, or make a connection to some different-but-related idea.  Here are a few suggestions for the closing paragraph of an essay:

  1. A recommendation on how the reader could/should use the info in the essay

  2. A lesson the reader could learn from the topic (or your essay)

  3. A suggestion of how the reader could use the info discussed with another example, idea, or topic

  4. A generalization to related information (If you were writing about a movie, let's say, you could generalize your conclusions to other movies by that director, or other stories by that writer)

You could also use the ideas for hooks/leads as techniques for writing your closing - just be careful about repeating a technique in your closing that you already used in your opening.
