Kindergarten Has Gone Wild

This month the Village Kindergarten classes dove into the world of nonfiction stories.  After learning about all types of animals they were given the opportunity to choose an animal of their own, research it and write all about it.  Students made choices based on what they wanted to learn more about.  The choices ranged from pets to jungle animals, sea creatures and arctic animals as well.  Archer from Ms. Minze’s class was excited to teach his friends about an ARCHER fish, he explained “It’s a fish that can squirt water out of its mouth to capture bugs to eat and it’s just like my name!”  Gia from Mrs. Gilet and Mrs. Minning’s class taught her friends  about bunnies. She was excited to talk about their love of carrots and that a bunny can jump over the tables in the classroom.

In Mrs. Varga’s class they chose to share and celebrate their writing by turning their class into a zoo.  Mrs. Varga used purposeful play based items that were gifted as part of a cross curricular grant from the HFEE.  They were able to use these materials and other resources to create habitats to display for the other Kindergarten classes.  Classes went to visit “The Zoo”, walked through, listened to the young authors talk about their animals and asked questions to the zookeepers.  It was such a fun few weeks for all the Kindergarten classes.
